PINTwood Derby Races Return to Riverhead Brewery
RIVERHEAD, N.Y., January 3, 2019 – Long Ireland Beer Company will once again host the Long Ireland PINTwood Derby on Saturday, January 26, 2019. Inspired by traditional childhood pine car races where scouts created and raced hand-crafted cars in friendly timed competitions, the PINTwood derby is for adults only (21+) who will race in the traditional 5 oz. class or the outlandish Outlaw class for trophies and bragging rights. Advance registration is required and can be done online at the event website www.LIPINTwoodderby.com or at the brewery. Long Ireland Beer Company is located at 817 Pulaski Street, Riverhead NY 11901. Competitors will surrender their cars on event day starting at 1:30PM, racing begins at 4:00PM.
Long Ireland Beer Co. co-owner Dan Burke is looking forward to hosting the event again. “The PINTwood derby brings together the appreciation for local, craft beer with the excitement that surrounds competition” says Burke. “Last year’s event was such a blast, the competitors and spectators had an amazing time cheering for the cars, drinking craft beer, and enjoying time with friends. Whether you’re a former Boy Scout, seasoned racer, or just happen to be in the area during the derby, you’re sure to have an amazing time.”
Beer enthusiasts like Brian Tellerman of Oakdale, NY are looking forward to another day at the races. “Last year I raced a car I built years ago with my dad back when I was a scout. While seeing the car again brought back great memories, the car was not a strong finisher. I’m making some improvements this year, hoping to gain some speed and up my car’s standing. I hoping to take home a trophy.”
Participation in the Long Ireland PINTwood Derby is $20 (must be booked in advance) and includes registration of one car in 4 races (times are averaged into a final time), an official PINTwood Derby Pint Glass, and $1 off pints purchased at the brewery during derby races. Trophies will be awarded in each category. Pre-registration closes at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 24, 2019.
