Have you heard of this powerful antioxidant-rich and soothing drink?

Golden Milk is creamy and rich in flavor. It is filled to the brim with delicious nutrients and packed with fantastic health benefits. Golden Milk is the perfect drink for the winter!

This beverage has been used traditionally in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. Turmeric the golden spice of life and the star of the show is known to be a natural anti-inflammatory.  When taken regularly turmeric can effectively and safely support the health of your liver and digestive system. This yellow wonder has many medicinal properties. It is also known to increase clarity and calmness within the mind and body.

The active ingredient in Turmeric is curcumin. This rooted herb is packed with healing power but is not readily absorbed by the digestive system. So, when you’re on the quest to ingest, keep an eye out for these two essential ingredients in your golden goodness.

  1. Black Pepper – Piperine an extract of black pepper increases the bio-availability of curcumin by as much as 2,000 percent

  2. Fat – coconut oil or ghee

* Curcumin is a fat-soluble – so by adding heat and a touch of healthy fat it helps to extract its constituents, making them more available in your body.

If you’re looking to relax your mind, unwind, and fight off the cold winter blues this yellow mellow golden milk is the best way to end your day.

I personally recommend reaping the rewards of the whole root.

I battle with arthritis and inflammation…this grounding spice keeps me nice.

After experimenting with many variations, this is my go-to recipe ~ try it out and DIY!

Golden Milk Home Recipe

(makes 2 cups)- served hot or cold

1 Cup Unsweetened Plain Almond Milk (DIY or Store Bought)
1 Can of full fat coconut Milk
1 Tablespoon of fresh grated turmeric or 1 teaspoon of dried
½ Tablespoon of fresh grated ginger or ¼ teaspoon of ground ginger
1 Tablespoon of coconut oil
¼ Teaspoon of black pepper
¼ Teaspoon of cinnamon
Pinch of cayenne
1 Tablespoon of sweetener of choice
1 pinch of cayenne

Directions:

Melt coconut oil in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the spices, and stir continuously for 30 seconds or until fragrant.

Add milk and sweetener of your choice ( I love to use maple syrup ). Whisk to combine and warm over medium heat. Heat until warm, not boiling. You don’t want it to curdle.- about 4 minutes- frequently whisking to create a frothy foam.

Remove from heat and taste to adjust flavor. Try adding adaptogenic herbs like ashwagandha, maca or medicinal mushrooms to turn it up a notch.

Serve Immediately, best when fresh, though leftovers can be stored and covered in the fridge for 2-3 days. Add remaining to oats, pancake batter, coffee/teas or smoothies.

* Traditionally consumed before rest due to its natural properties to soothe joint pains, and relax muscles. Known to promote restful sleep and peaceful dreams. You will wake up, bright-eyed and glowing wanting more!
